Water Resource Management
Experts say that in the next decade, water resource management will become the single most critical issue facing the world. More than any other natural resource, people and society rely on water as the connective tissue for all of our most basic needs, from health, food and nutrition to energy production and military defense.
But the world’s supply of fresh water is diminishing and the need for solutions is pressing. Demand throughout the world is rapidly on the rise while climate change is vastly reducing supply.
Consumers can do their part by being mindful of waste and the need for conservation at every turn. Look for ways to reuse household water for tasks like watering plants. Set up a rain barrel to catch water for outside and plant watering needs. Buy native regional plants that tend to require less maintenance and watering. Watch for water waste in everyday tasks from tooth brushing to dishwashing.
Bottled drinking water has become a significant issue as experts recognize that most products on the market are not regulated and therefore less accountable for quality than most municipal water districts.
If you are concerned about trace chemicals like lead, mercury and copper in your tap water, buying a simple and inexpensive water purifier system will filter these out. In the process, you will reduce plastic consumption, along with emissions from transporting bottled water over the roads.
